Default Putnam County Speedway is back.

Hawthorne businessman Tracy Cantley recently purchased the Putnam County Speedway off U.S. 17 in Satsuma, FL. Cantley closed on the 40-acre property on the last day of August, 2020. He paid $350,000 for the speedway. It's new name will be Putnam Raceway.

The last time a race was held at the 3/8 mile clay track was in 2016. Plenty of work has been done to the facility such as remodeling of the announcer/scorers/VIP booth, concession stands, bathrooms, and merchandise booth. Approximately 100 truck loads of clay have been laid down to restore the racing surface. The retaining fence has been fixed. The PA system has been improved. Grandstands have been painted. The electrical systems have been revamped. There has been so much that has been done to bring the track back up to great stature it's too numerous to cover it all.

There is definitely excitement in the community and beyond.

Two practice sessions have been held with 70-80 cars showing up to test out the new racing surface. The first actual race night is scheduled for Friday, March 12, 2021 and will feature the Florida Late Model Challenge Series, E Modifieds, Street Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Real Stocks. Pits will open at 4 p.m. Grandstands at 6 p.m. General admission is $10 with kids 12 and under free. Pit admission is $30 with 12 and under at $15. Hot laps will begin at 7 p.m. with racing starting at 8 p.m.

The primary night for racing will be Friday night, but there will be a few Friday and Saturday big events staged during the 2021 season. Stay informed by visiting the website, https://putnamraceway.com/, or visiting the Putnam Raceway Facebook page. The number of hits at both these sites has been extremely encouraging. A capacity crowd is forecast for opening night so get down early for your choice of seats.

Thanks for the update Mr. Berti. Great news. I have been to Putnam a few times in the past and although the car count had been small I still saw some great dirt track racing. Sprint cars always put on a great show at Putnam. Looking forward to heading there again when track re-opens. Will you be the announcer for the track ??? Hopefully the answer will be yes. Well thanks again and see ya at the races.......btw, the food was always priced right and was very good to the taste buds.....
