I am in construction management and have been laid off for a month. I have offered my services as low as entry level positions and today was actually told i was over qualified!

The 10% unemployment rate you see on TV is based on NEW filers, not including the filers whose benefits are about to run out or the ones who have been poverty level so long they just switched over to welfare.

The REAL numbers are more like 19=25%!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't buy a job!

Just for your info Harry. They are repaving I-75 from Gainsville thru Ocala and south. Maybe they need someone like you. You did a great job on 44 between Wildwood and Inverness a few years back.:huepfen024:
Good Luck.

Harry, I agree with you on the unemployment rate and feel like it might be even higher like closer to 30-35%. I have been out of work (part/full time) for two years. I was a substitute teacher for the last two years with very little work two years ago and last school year I had no work at all. Because I worked for a private Christian school I cannot claim unemployment at all. There are a lot of people out there who did not get any benefits or have already had their benefits run out and they don't count.

I hope and pray that you find something soon. I was promised a job by one school if I finished my college degree. I finished it to only be told there was no job for me there and never would. Still looking and not giving up hope yet.

Good luck!!!

there are people out of work that have filed for unemployment and are being turn down or take forever to be approved. They are not counted.

This leads to something else that is pretty much a non topic for the liberals. Those on welfare and unemployment should be able to pass a drug test.
I really don't think its fair for the hard working people to pay for the ones on welfare and unemployment to use illegal drugs.

This unemployment argument cracks me up.

YES there is a waiting period. Know why?

PEOPLE ARE CHEATING. LYING. STEALING FROM YOU AND ME.

Last year I got a call from State of FL unemployment saying something like "Mr. Tenney, a former employee of yours named Tyrone Shoelaces (or something like that) has filed an unemployment claim against you."

"Who? Never heard of him."

"Well Mr. Tenney, the burden of proof is on the employer to prove that the person never worked for you.

"How the hell do I prove someone DIDN'T work for me? By NOT showing you a paycheck? THATS RIDICULOUS!!! Does the guy have a paystub? A cancelled check? ANYTHING that has my name on it?"

"We are not allowed to give out that information Mr. Tenney." (Oh you aren't huh? Yet you can call me and harass me.)

I was finally able to get her to call my Employee Leasing company (who I worked for) and they have their records on line so she could see that this guy NEVER worked for me. What a fricken' joke.

I know someone right now who intentionally got fired from their job, so they can collect unemployment while working under the table at their new job.

I'm against involuntary handouts PERIOD

Cara

In no way do I want a handout, just a job. We had a neighbor who was getting food stamps and welfare who claimed he had a bad back and other health problems so he couldn't work. He said he had several surgeries but no scars from them. Turns out he was a smoker, drinker and drug dealer and yes, a couch potatoe. Put up with it for 9 months before he was finally kicked out by his landlord for non payment of rent. This was across the street from my house and of course the cops did nothing about it when we complained.

I do not believe in a "free ride" but too many are getting it while others who really need help are getting none. My husband took a pay cut of 10% in Feb. when work was already off by nearly 60%. We have learned to do without and keeping our bills paid comes first. No racing and can't even afford to go to watch the races. Would love to race but know I need a job to do that. Right now I stay busy taking care of my mom and her commecial rental property which keeps me busy but no money coming in for me.

hey benny im also in construction management..i was told when i was laid off if they got more work they would call me .if available to come back they would put me back to work... so far they havent been getting enough to hire back anyone.most places ive went to arent hiring and if they are its hard to get hired with so many applying... i just keep looking and hope things to get better

Cara, i would have welcomed a 10% pay cut with open arms. My employer cut my position all together to save the company the remainder of my annual salary when i was the one who busted my hump day (and many nights) to get him the projects he currently has. i just transfered money from my savings account to pay bills....it's almost gone too.

SS29 It's bad everywhere, i'm from Fla origionally and i'm back down here now trying to secure a job simply because i have numberous contacts down here and have a work history here.

I'll land on my feet.......i just hope it's soon.

Harry, I hope things work out for you. When they did the paycut where my husband works at, they did layoff a lot of people that day. We called it "Black Monday" . It was sad to see a lot of them go and most have landed on their feet with another job. We too have drained both our savings and checking accounts to keep afloat right now. My husband is doing side jobs as a mechanic and we also work on computers. I have two more job interviews coming up even though they are nothing I want at all just need the extra money to help out. We don't even have the extra money for me to go to my college graduation next week in Georgia, something I was really looking forward to.

I have finally returned to the working masses. I had to change careers but i came in entry level at nearly my annual salary in construction management.

I was driving down the road one day talking on my cellphone and noticed even poor people had them...so i went into communications.:cool008:

have cell phones. They can get free cell phones and service from the government. Which is provided by you the taxpayer. Just google it, put in free government cell phone and bingo, tells you how to get it. Even have seen adds on tv for it. They make it sound like it is your right, to have one paid by the taxpayers.

Harry, glad to hear that you found a job. Even though you had to change careers, at least you are getting a paycheck.

Sometimes a career change isn't always bad a bad thing.
As far as the poor with cell phones, growing up in the 80's in the hills of North California we didn't even have phones in our shack (more then a shed but less then a house). I really don't see the need for tax payer $$'s to pay for phone service. Put that money towards FEEDING the children in our own country.

living in a mostly "farm worker" type community, I can show you where most of your tax dollors are.

After standing in line at the local discount grocery store for about twenty minutes the other day, I had plenty of time to observe some of the clientel ahead of me. The woman with four little ones running all over the place was on her cell phone when the other cell phone in her purse started blurting out some kind of marryaachie racket. For the next ten minutes or so she did not speak the first word of english. I have nothing against that.
As the cashier finished ringing up the first cart FULL of groceries, the woman ahead of me, (still on the cell phone) hollered at one the yungens running around to push the other cart next to me up to the check out counter.
The clincher of this story is the fact that this mother of four, all under the age of ten, paid for over two hundred and fifty dollors of groceries with food stamps. All the while talking on one of the two cell phones.

But here's the kick in the pattuty. As I was walking out to my 1986 Chevy pick up, she was loading all those groceries into the back of Lincoln Navigator, and still on the phone. BTW, she was about eight months pregnant.

God Bless America!! (whats left of it)

You think that is bad, try looking at habitat for humanity.

Just another case of how broken the system really is. Really, what is the American Governments objective with welfare? It certainly does not help these people get back into the work force legally.

the other day as i was mailing a package i seen this big black suv drive tru and it had these bad set of wheels and tires on it jacked up set like i had been looking for

so i followed this guy into welfare parking lot to ask him were he bought them at as he was getting out he told me that tires and wheels were seven thousand four hundred dollars

i told him thanks and backed up and watched him come out with 7 kids and his wife i guess with rings on her fingers big enough to choke a horse
and there were no junk cars in that lot

obama taking care he is even sending checks to people in jail go bama go

Habitat for Humanity is another example of a good idea gone bad with a corrupt government. They still do some good things but those are getting fewer and farther between.

Edm

Since we are on the topic let me tell you a little bit of what I have seen with Habitat for humanity. I used to manage an a/c company in Volusia County that used to do a lot of new construction work on the habitat homes. First the homes are not free but they are VERY cheap and VERY good terms. 95% of our call backs were for dirty air filters but that was no surprise. What got me was the condition of the houses. FILTHY and completely un-kept. Illegal drugs in plain view, $2000 birds, $4000 tvs, expensive cars with massive stereo systems, wheels and tires, and multiple families living in these homes. Each person who is getting a home has to do a certain amount of work during the construction stage, I saw this happen ONCE with the DOZENS of houses that we did during the 3 years I was with this company. I know there are some decent people that get these houses but from my own personal experience I have only seen a few.

Benny.. congrats on the new job.... After my divorce(I lost my business to my ex-wife...), I took a position as a traveling project Super/Manager, but decided to land in one place... So I took a job as a Night shift Plant Supervisor... several months ago, I took a huge drop in hours... Well over 60% of my income disappeared overnight... The same week we laid off over 55% of the employees.... In fact, we dropped a whole shift.... My shift... So now I just find and fix everyone's screw ups....
You know the worst part is, because my better half (who got her hours cut as well) and I don't have 6 kids, 3 dogs, 10 cats, speak a language other than English, have a drug addiction, or feign a Mental condition, and the like; we aren't eligible for any help.... Not that I would take it, but i found that amazing... So remember if you are free, American, a Veteran, and work for a living, you are SCREWED!!!!

Sorry my apologies to all for being a nasty today.... But it has been a pretty tough last few weeks.... Hey tell me what is on the TV lately, we cut the Tv, home phone, and internet bill a couple months ago to reduce expenses... Thank God for cell phones and internet capable phones... hmmm let's see, what else I can cut to save money... I know, FOOD is Next! It is way overrated..... ROFLMAO...

Yes Roger there is that weird looking term again....

Have a great day all....
