Whats up with the moderating Jerry? He is one of only a handful that still come on this board and offer spectator only points of view. With his experiences at all of the different tracks throughout the country I feel that we have lost a valuable member of this board. Whatever happened to a slap on the wrist?

I tried to resist commenting, but I must. More than once I have had posts deleted that were in no way intended to offend, and yet someone gets offended. It is one thing to moderate a snert or a troll, but it is something else entirely to moderate people for being themselves, or for arguing a point. Sorry, but I believe that the operators of this board do themselves and racing a diservice in the way that they moderate. Open discussion is educational and constructive, but it seems to me that discussion is not what the operators of this board are after.

My theory is that there may be too many hands in the cookie jar. I have seen posts that sit for a while like they are being allowed, and then get zapped later on, while others get an immediate deletion. To me it seems that one moderator allows something but then another zaps it later? Perhaps what we need is a very explicit set of rules that leave little up to individual tastes and opinions.

From what I have observed, it seems that this board is intended as a "announcement board" where we can post news and info, but where we are not encouraged to discuss points and counterpoints. If that is the case, then please tell us. I'll happily keep my posts to information about the tracks that I work for or any other racing related news. I just want to know what the rules are, that's all!

What happened. I talked with him yesterday from the land-line, shooting-the-breeze, and he gave me the whole story, the whole 9-yards of what went down. It's not a good story, and if I see ya' at a Raceway, I'll tell ya' about it.

this is a major problem.

if it's necessary to moderate something, the post should be left up and the thread locked with an explanation as to why the thread was locked.

if it's absolutely required to censor the post ( porn spam or what have you ), then leave a place holder and fill in an explanation as to whats going on.

if you have a problem account, he needs a suspension or barring from the board.

OJ could have been "handled" simply by warning him to back down on personal stuff and giving him a week suspension if necessary. of course, it's pretty hard to justify disciplining OJ when buttplugbob, Ovalracer44 and others ( me? damn, hoisted on my own petard ) are allowed to spam idiocy all over the place for months on end.

the whole Raz thing ( bouncing people for activities that don't have anything to do with the Karnak board ) is completely beyond the pale.
